Biography
1906 Chen Wen-Hsi 陈文希 was born on September 9, in Baigong, Guangdong Province China.
He entered Chen Li Primary School very early, and St. Joseph Middle School.
1928 At the end of Secondary school, he decided to devote himself to Art.
He joined for one year the Shanghai College of Art, then the Xinhua College of Art under Pan Tianshou.
1929 First exhibition in Snatow then Shanghai (1931 – 1933), Guangzhou (1932 – 1936).
1937 He received praise of Xu Beihong at the 2nd National Art Exhibition, Nanjing.
In the same year, he was elected as one of the ten greatest Chinese Contemporary Artists by an English Art magazine.
1948 He moved to Singapore and began teaching painting at the Chinese Secondary School and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nanyang.
He was one of the four artists and educators, pioneers of Singapore, with his friends :
Chen Chong Swee, Liu Kang, Cheong Soo Pieng .
During the holidays, he travelled to South East Asia in search of inspiration.
He participated in exhibitions of the group of the Society of Art of Singapore.

He received numerous awards :
The Public Service Star (1965 ), the Gold Medal of the National Museum of History (1980 ),
The Asean Prize for Culture and Communication (1987 )
1991 He died on 17 December in Singapore, at the age of 87.
1992 He was awarded a posthumous Meritorious Service Medal.
2006 Convergences, a centennial retrospective was held by the Singapore Art Museum from December 2006 to April 2007
